Description
An arm sling for a sprained, broken or operated arm, holding the forearm bent at about 90 degrees while it recuperates. This is the Tropical version, cut for hot and humid weather: the maker states the pouch does not cover the chest.
How the arm sits in the pouch
The forearm rests in the pouch at about 90 degrees. A thumb cradle inside it eases the point where the hand would otherwise press. The strap is set to length and closed at a buckle with hook-loop tape, and an Ethafoam pad sits under it on the shoulder.
The fabric for hot weather
The pouch is a three-layer PU fabric that Tynor describes as durable, tear resistant and wrinkle free. The design is minimal: the maker states the pouch does not cover the chest, which suits it to tropical conditions.
Which size to order
Measure the chest circumference under the arms. Medium covers 86 to 102 cm (34 to 40 in), and the maker advises the next size up at the top of a band. This page offers Medium; ask us about other sizes.
The maker's other sizes are Small 71 to 86 cm, Large 102 to 117 cm, Extra large 117 to 132 cm, XXL 132 to 147 cm and a child size 56 to 71 cm. Ask us if you need one of them.
What goes with an arm sling
With one arm out of action, everyday tasks are managed one-handed. Weight-bearing aids people learn to use with one arm are in the walkers and wheelchairs sections, and the rest of the room is under patient room products.
Where an injury is part of a wider mobility problem, funding may help with the cost of the equipment that goes with it, and we can assess the home before anything is chosen.
Frequently asked questions
Does the pouch cover the chest?
No. Tynor states the pouch does not cover the chest, which is what suits it to hot and humid conditions and lets air reach the torso.
How is the sling fastened?
The strap is set to length and the sling opens and closes at a buckle with hook-loop tape, so the arm goes in and out without disturbing the strap.
Which size do I need?
Measure the chest under the arms. Medium covers 86 to 102 cm (34 to 40 in), and above the top of a band the maker advises the next size up. This page offers Medium; ask us about other sizes.
Is it only for a broken arm?
Tynor lists it for the sprained, broken or surgically operated arm, so it is also used where the arm has to rest after surgery or a ligament injury.
