Description
The Whitmyer Contoured Cradle is a wheelchair head support built around one pad that curves up at the sides. It holds the head from behind and from the sides at once, for a client whose head rolls to one shoulder when they tire.
How does the pad adjust to the head?
The pad sits on a rotating collar, so the support surface can be turned to meet the head where it rests. The cradle shape follows the curve at the base of the skull instead of pressing flat against the back of it.
Which pad size fits?
Sizes run from Small to Large, covering children through adults, and each is also made as a C-Plush pad with softer cushioning. Size follows the client's head width and side control, so we measure on the chair: book a free home assessment or visit our showroom.
Which cover should I choose?
Lycra is water resistant with four-way stretch, Dartex Reversed is anti-allergenic and waterproof, and Fleece is a washable lambswool. Covers come off and are ordered separately.
How does it mount?
The pad fits six of the maker's mounting systems: AXYS, ONYX, LINX, PRO and COBRA XTRA, plus the COBRA XTRA Flip Back version, which swings backwards for transfers. Lateral facial pads, a forehead strap and switch mounts fit the same assembly, so support can grow with the client.

Delivery, fitting and warranty
We deliver and set up across Toronto and the GTA and fit the head support with the person. Whitmyer covers components for one year, the metal parts for five years against breakage, and covers, straps, foam and gel for 90 days. The paperwork is on our documents page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I choose the size?
By the width of the head and how much side support the client needs, not by age. We measure against the head on the chair, because the pad has to cup the skull rather than sit behind it.
Can the headrest move out of the way for transfers?
Yes, with the COBRA XTRA Flip Back mount, which folds the headrest backwards so the client can be lifted in and out without the pad in the way.
Will it fit my wheelchair?
The pad fits six Whitmyer mounting systems, each with its own range of adjustment. Tell us the make and model and we will match the mount to it.
