Description
The BIOS Living Bath Lift, model 59023, is made by BIOS Medical of Newmarket, Ontario. It sits on the tub floor on four suction cups, lowers you to 2" (5 cm) above the floor and lifts the seat back to the rim, and the backrest reclines to 50 degrees.
Who is the BIOS Living Bath Lift for?
Someone who can sit and stand with a handhold but cannot lower into a tub safely, or a carer who would rather not lift. The seat rotates and slides sideways so the bather can bring their legs in over the tub wall.
Will it fit your bathtub?
It is 13.75" (35 cm) wide and 16.5" (42 cm) deep, and the maker says it fits most standard tubs. The suction cups go at the edge of a clean tub floor. We measure your tub at the free home assessment.
How do you set it up and charge it?
Assembly is tool free: the seat slides onto the backrest and the backrest drops into the axle base. The charger plugs into the hand control, and the maker says a full charge takes 8 hours.
How safe is it to use?
The maker rates it at 287 lbs (130 kg). It runs on 12 volts, the hand control is rated IPX7 so it can go in the water, and there is an emergency stop. The maker warns the backrest must not hit the tub as it lowers.
How do you clean and care for it?
The headrest, backrest and seat pads are waterproof and lift off for cleaning. Rinse the lift after use, dry it and store it somewhere cool and dry.
Which sizes and colours are there?
One model, 59023, in blue and white. The hand control, four suction cups and the power adapter are all included, and the maker lists no other size or colour.
Funding help for a bath lift in Ontario
Funding may help: see who may help pay. Bathroom equipment is bought privately in most cases. Other help may be available depending on the person's situation: ODSP may cover basic bathing and toileting aids for people who receive it, and Veterans Affairs Canada and WSIB may cover them for eligible clients.
Some private health plans may pay part of the cost, and most programs need their approval before you buy. See our funding guide or call (905) 798-1853.
How does it compare with the other bath lifts?
The BIOS lift and the Drive Bellavita models all lower you into the tub and recline. The BIOS has a wired hand control and the sliding seat; the Bellavita Auto is lighter and lifts 300 lbs. See our bath lifts.
How do delivery and service work?
We deliver across Toronto and the GTA. Bathroom items cannot be returned once used under our return policy, so measure first.
What does the maker's warranty cover?
The maker's user guide states a limited lifetime warranty. Ask us for the written terms before you buy.
