Description

The BIOS BD703 is a handheld male urinal: a 1 litre clear plastic bottle with a snap-on lid and a moulded handle, for someone who is in bed or cannot get to the toilet in time. BIOS Medical, a brand by Thermor Ltd. of Newmarket, Ontario, makes it.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It suits someone who is bed-ridden or of limited mobility and can still use a handheld bottle, with a carer to empty it. If the person needs to sit rather than use a bottle, the next step up is a bedside or wheeled commode.

BIOS also makes a bed pan (BD702) and this urinal with a female attachment (BD700, 800 ml). Ask us about either.

How much does it hold, and how do you use it?

BIOS gives 1000 cc (1 litre) as the maximum capacity, with graduation marks in cubic centimetres and ounces moulded down the side so the volume can be read. The lid snaps on for carrying and storage, and the handle is moulded into the body.

How do you clean it?

BIOS says only that the body is translucent, sturdy and easy to clean. It publishes no washing or disinfection method, so we state none. Ask us for the supplier's guidance.

How does it compare?

  • Bedside commode: for someone who can transfer and sit, rather than use a bottle.
  • BIOS bed pan BD702: a contoured pan with easy-grip sides, for use in bed.
  • BIOS BD700: the same bottle with a female attachment, rated 800 ml, for a shared bathroom.

Frequently asked questions

Is it spill proof?

BIOS does not claim that for BD703. The lid closes the bottle for carrying and storage; BIOS describes the BD700 version with the female attachment as designed to prevent spillage.

How much does it hold?

BIOS gives 1000 cc (1 litre) as the maximum capacity, and the maker's photo shows graduations in cubic centimetres and ounces.

Does BIOS give a warranty?

BIOS publishes no warranty for this item and has no warranty policy page, so we state none. Ask us and we will check.

Can it go in a dishwasher?

BIOS publishes no washing method for this item, so we cannot say. It states only that the body is easy to clean.

We deliver across Toronto and the GTA and can show how the item works. Bathroom safety items are non-returnable under our return policy, so check the size first; a free home assessment can compare the options. Delivery details are in our shipping policy, and the rest of the range is in bathroom safety.
