Description
This is the black ProBasics small base quad cane: four points of contact on a narrow base, the version to look at if a wide quad cane caught on door frames and skirting boards. The maker rates the adult model to 300 lb and builds it from a lightweight aluminium shaft welded to a steel base.
Small base or large base
ProBasics sells this cane in two base sizes under two item numbers. The maker's wording is that the small base manoeuvres more easily while the large base gives more stability, and both adult versions carry the same 300 lb rating. If you want the steadier stance, ask about the large base model. Our walking aids range covers the rest.
Which hand you hold it in
The handle rotates, so the same cane can be set for a right or a left hand without tools. That helps if you swap sides during the day or if the cane gets shared. The maker's contoured vinyl grip is sculpted to reduce the chance of your hand slipping.
Setting the height
The handle adjusts from 29 in to 38 in in 1 in steps. A push button releases the shaft and a locking anti-rattle ring takes up the play once it clicks home, so the cane does not clack as you walk. Set it level with the crease at your wrist. Our service team will set it with you.
What it weighs, and the feet
The small base model weighs 2.3 lb, and the four feet carry 3/4 in non-skid rubber tips that the maker says are made for long term use. Tips wear out before anything else on a cane, so look at them when you notice it starting to slide.
Standing on its own
The maker says the quad canes stand up on their own when not in use, which is one reason people move up to four points of contact from a single tip. Put it somewhere it will not be knocked.

Frequently asked questions
Is a small base as strong as a large one?
Both adult ProBasics quad canes are rated to 300 lb. The difference is handling: the small base is easier to steer in tight spots, the large base is steadier.
Can I use it in my left hand?
Yes. The handle rotates for right or left hand use and it needs no tools. We will set it for the hand you use when you collect it.
What height does it adjust to?
29 in to 38 in, in 1 in steps, with a locking anti-rattle ring. We will set the height with you.
Will it stay standing when I put it down?
Drive says the quad canes stand on their own when not in use. Put it where it cannot be knocked over, since a cane in a walkway is a trip hazard.
Do I get one cane or six?
The maker's item line for CNQSB is a case of six. Tell us how many you need and we will confirm what one purchase delivers.
