Description

Span's convoluted foam overlay is an egg-crate comfort pad that sits on a mattress. It is not a treatment surface.

Who should use it, and who should not?

  • Span says the pads add comfort and can ease discomfort from illness, fatigue or staying still.
  • The same page says convoluted overlays are a comfort measure only. For pressure-injury care, choose a foam mattress or a medical mattress the care team names.
  • Span prints no weight limit. The mattress and the bed underneath still set the limit.

Which pad is which?

  • Every pad is 72" (183 cm) long and 34" (86 cm) wide. Span compression-rolls them for storage.
  • SP22R-000 is the 2" (5 cm) premium pad, 12 per case. SP32R-000 is the 3" (8 cm) premium pad, 6 per case. SP45R-000 is the 4" (10 cm) premium pad, 4 per case.
  • Standard-density codes (SP22S-000, SP35S-000, SP45S-000) are on the maker page and are not sold here.
  • A 72" pad on an 80" deck leaves the foot of the mattress bare. See mattress sizes.

How do you use it?

  • Foam is combustion-modified polyurethane. There is no cover on the maker page, so the peaks are open foam.
  • It is an overlay. It does not replace the mattress, and it is not a bed rail. Recheck rail gaps after you add the pad. Health Canada flags gaps over 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3.
  • We confirm whether you are buying one pad or the case before you order. The case count changes with thickness.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a pressure-injury mattress?

No. Span says it is a comfort measure only and tells you to ask them for a pressure-management surface when that is the need.

How many pads are in a case?

Twelve of the 2" premium, six of the 3" premium, or four of the 4" premium. We confirm the unit you want.

Does the pad come with a cover?

The maker page does not list a cover. What you see is the blue convoluted foam.
