Description
The Equalizer is a contoured cushion that Span-America builds in layers. A memory foam top sits over a foundation layer the maker shapes to position the femurs and the pelvis, and three zones of a gel-like soft polymer are set in beneath the thighs and the seat bones.
Who it suits
- Riders whose therapist wants the legs and pelvis held in a set position, not just padded.
- People who find a plain foam block too firm under the seat bones: the base is softer there and the top is memory foam.
- The right cushion is chosen in a seating assessment by an occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
- Chairs up to 250 lbs (113 kg). The maker's bariatric sizes take 500 lbs (227 kg) and are not sold here.
Will it fit your chair?
- Four sizes: 16 x 16 in, 18 x 16 in, 18 x 18 in and 20 x 18 in. Width is given first.
- It stands 3.5 in (8.9 cm) high and weighs about 4 lbs (1.8 kg), so it lifts on and off easily.
- The maker's bariatric widths, 22 in and 24 in, are not stocked here.
Living with it
- The cover's underside is rugged nylon, its top is a two-way stretch fabric, and a carry handle sits at the front.
- A sleeve in the base of the cover takes the maker's moulded Sling-Fill base, which is not included. It adds stability on a fabric sling seat.
- Nothing needs pumping or refilling.

What does the memory foam top do?
The maker uses it for softness and conformance, so the surface follows the body.
Can I use it on a sling seat?
Yes. The cover has a sleeve for the maker's optional moulded Sling-Fill base, which adds stability on a fabric sling seat. It is not included.
