Description
The Star Stabil-Air is a single chamber air cell wheelchair cushion from Star, now part of Etac. Every air cell holds a soft foam cylinder, and the cushion carries two cylinder heights: the outer rows are taller, while the cylinders under the buttocks, coccyx and legs sit lower.
Etac calls that lower inner row an anatomically shaped secondary layer of skin protection. One valve sets the whole cushion. These are 4 in cells, and an occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the air level in a seating assessment. The air cushion range covers the other chamber options.
Who is it for?
The foam cylinders give the cushion a firmer, more stable feel, and Etac says the interconnected cells readjust as the user moves in the seat. The maker prints no maximum user weight: every item in the table reads Unlimited.
Which size fits the chair?
The 4 in items run 13.5 x 13.5 in to 21 x 21 in, in the maker's seat width bands of 12-14, 14-16, 16-17, 17-19 and 19-21 in. Etac publishes no 4 in item past 21 x 21 in, so send us the seat width and depth: we confirm the maker item, and a larger seat is quoted on request.
How does the air work?
The cells are interconnected in one chamber, so a single valve adjustment sets the whole surface rather than balancing cells one at a time. Etac says the cylinders hold a considerable amount of air, for envelopment.
Covers, care and returns
The cushion comes with a StarLock cover. Clean it with a 70% disinfectant solution, and hand wash at 40 C (104 F) maximum. A used cushion, or one that has touched the skin, is not returnable. Read the return policy.
