Description

Item 796 is Drive's steerable knee walker: a steel frame, a split pad and a tiller you turn.

Who it is for

  • Drive lists it for keeping weight off one foot after surgery, a break, a sprain, an amputation or an ulcer.
  • Rated to 350 lb (159 kg). The listed frame weight is 21 lb (9.5 kg).
  • One person only. Drive says it is a medical device, not a toy.

Fit

  • Handles adjust from 31.5 in to 40.25 in (80-102 cm). The current sheet calls that tool free.
  • The pad is 7 in wide by 15 in deep. Pad height runs from 16.75 in to 20.5 in (43-52 cm).
  • Rest the leg along the pad with the foot pointing down, so that foot takes no weight.
  • A fitter can check the setup at home. Book a free home assessment.

Steering, brakes and ground

  • The tiller steers the front wheels. The 7.5 in casters are for indoor and outdoor use on firm ground.
  • Pull the hand lever toward the grip to slow. Push the button on the lever to hold the brake, then pull again to release.
  • Stay off loose gravel, large cracks and curbs. Do not use it on a slope steeper than 15 degrees.
  • Keep to a slow walk, and turn only with the pushing foot on the ground.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the economy folding knee walker?

No. That model is item RTL799. This page is item 796, the steerable walker with the split pad.

Can I take it over a curb or onto gravel?

No. Stay on firm, even ground. The manual says to avoid gravel, large cracks and curbs.

Should someone stay with me at first?

Yes. Drive says to be shown how to use it, and to practise with another person before you go out alone.

Does the resting foot take any weight?

No. The pad keeps that foot and ankle off the ground. Use the other foot to push and to turn.
