Description
The Sportif sleeve suits a knee that wants warmth and even pressure rather than a hinged brace: an arthritic or aching knee, a knee that swells after sport, or the weeks after a strain when you are back on your feet. It pulls on over the foot like a sock.
What Tynor builds into it
Three layers of neoprene are bonded into one fabric, and ventilated holes sit behind the knee where a crease would otherwise trap heat. A round opening is cut over the kneecap and its rim is padded, so the patella is steadied while the sleeve presses evenly around it.
Getting the size right
Stand with the leg straight and measure around the mid-thigh, about 15 cm (6 in) above the knee. The maker's chart runs from 37.6 to 62 cm: Medium 44 to 50 cm, Large 50 to 56 cm and Extra large 56 to 62 cm.
When a sleeve is not the answer
The Sportif is a compression sleeve, not a brace: it has no hinges and does not limit how far the knee bends. If the knee gives way, or has to be held still after surgery, the aids that take weight off it are in the walkers and wheelchairs sections.

How do I measure for the right size?
Stand or sit with the leg straight and measure around the mid-thigh, about 15 cm (6 in) above the knee. The maker's chart runs from 37.6 to 62 cm, and at the top of a band the maker advises taking the next size up.
Is the kneecap covered or left open?
It is left open. Tynor cuts a round opening over the patella and pads the rim, so the kneecap sits in the gap while the sleeve presses evenly around the joint.
Does the sleeve stop the knee from bending?
No. It is a compression sleeve with no hinges, so it does not limit movement. It is worn for warmth and even pressure, not to hold a joint still.
Which sizes are available in Canada?
Medium, Large and Extra large, as item numbers J-09M, J-09L and J-09XL. Tynor also makes a Small and an XXL, and neither is carried here; ask us and we will look at ordering one in.
