Description

The Ki Mobility Axiom PL is a posterior lateral wheelchair back with a lumbar pad. An occupational therapist or physiotherapist chooses it in a seating assessment. This item is for frame widths of 12 to 20 in (30.5 to 50.8 cm).

What does it do and how does it work?

The shell supports the trunk from behind and from the sides, with a 3.65 in (9.3 cm) lateral profile. A foam base sits on the shell, under a removable cover, and an adjustable lumbar pad is included.

  • Mounting hardware is included. Choose DEX, BTX, FXT or LWX.
  • DEX or FXT hardware: user weight up to 300 lb (136 kg). BTX hardware: up to 400 lb (181 kg).
  • The cover is machine washed in hot water at 60 C (140 F).

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

It is for someone who needs posterior and lateral trunk support, as set in the seating assessment. Choose the Axiom PB for a posterior shell, or the Axiom DL for a deeper lateral shell without the lumbar pad.

Will it fit?

Widths follow the wheelchair frame: 12, 14, 16, 18 or 20 in (30.5 to 50.8 cm). A 22 in (55.9 cm) wide shell is a separate item.

Heights run from 8 in (20.3 cm) to 22 in (55.9 cm): low 8, 10 or 12, mid 14, 16 or 18, and tall 20 or 22.

We confirm the width, height and hardware style before you order.

Using it day to day

The hardware mounts on the chair. Fit the cover with the handle strap at the top. Stop using the back if the skin reddens.

Wash the cover in hot water at 60 C (140 F). Do not bleach it, iron it, or dry clean it. A sized back is a special order: read the return policy.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

Low backs, 8 to 12 in (20.3 to 30.5 cm) tall, cannot take a headrest or a posture support. Extra lateral pads are a separate selection.

FXT and LWX hardware cannot be used with those pads. LWX fits only 12 to 18 in (30.5 to 45.7 cm) widths and 8 to 16 in (20.3 to 40.6 cm) heights.

The shell and foam carry 24 months and the cover 6 months; see the Warranty tab.

Which version should I choose?

Use BTX when the person's weight is above 300 lb (136 kg), up to 400 lb (181 kg). DEX and FXT stay at 300 lb (136 kg). The shell is Shadow Black unless another gloss or matte colour is chosen.

A free home assessment can look at the chair first. Mounting is booked through service and repairs, and quotes start at wheelchair configuration.

How does it compare?

The Axiom PB includes a lumbar pad on a posterior shell. The Axiom DL is the deep lateral shell, and the lumbar pad is not included. More backs are under backrests.
