Description
The Ki Mobility Axiom PB back is the shallowest rigid back in the Axiom family. It fits wheelchair frames 12 to 22 in wide and comes with an adjustable lumbar pad and mounting hardware.
What does it do and how does it work?
It supports the trunk with a shallow curve, leaving the shoulders and arms free.
- Contour: a 2.25 in (5.7 cm) lateral curve shaped for the lumbar spine.
- Shell: formed aluminium with dual mounting slots; height adjusts independently of the hardware.
- Foam and cover: 1.3 in (3.3 cm) foam under a breathable nylon-spandex cover.
- Adjustment: 3.3 in (8.3 cm) height, 2 in (5.1 cm) width, 1.5 in (3.8 cm) depth and 20 degrees of angle.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
It suits a rider who needs trunk support without a deep side wrap.
- Choose the Axiom PL posterior lateral back for a 3.65 in (9.3 cm) contour with more side support.
- Choose the Axiom custom back when the rider needs a made-to-measure back.
An occupational therapist or physiotherapist chooses the contour and size in a seating assessment.
Will it fit?
Order by wheelchair frame width: 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 or 22 in (30 to 56 cm).
- Back width: about 2 in (5 cm) narrower than the frame.
- Heights: low 8, 10 or 12 in (20, 25 or 30 cm); mid 14, 16 or 18 in (36, 41 or 46 cm). The foam adds 2 in (5 cm).
- Part numbers: AXPB plus width and height; the 22 in width comes only at 10, 14 and 18 in high.
Using it day to day
The back comes assembled.
- Removing it: DEX and BTX release with a lever or latch; FXT and LWX stay fixed.
- Cleaning: the cover machine washes at 60 C (140 F) and line dries without heat; wipe the shell with soap and water.
- Checking it: inspect the cover, foam and hardware monthly; stop if the foam breaks down or the hardware loosens.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
Ki Mobility rates capacity by hardware.
- User weight: 300 lb (136 kg) with the DEX or FXT mount; the BTX mount raises it to 400 lb (181 kg).
- Low backs: 8, 10 and 12 in backs take no headrest or posture support.
- Vehicle use: the wheelchair must be tested to ISO 7176-19, and the back top no more than 5.5 in (14 cm) below the shoulder top.
- Warranty: 24 months; covers 6 months.
How does it compare?
- The Axiom PL is the next contour up.
- The Prism Ultra back has a 6 in (15 cm) lateral contour and a 250 lb (113 kg) capacity.
- The Lunar heavy duty mid back is a 500 lb (227 kg) back, 22 to 32 in wide.
