Description
The JAY Fusion is a wheelchair cushion from Sunrise Medical. A contoured foam base holds a JAY Flow fluid pad in the rear well.
How the cushion is built
- The base is closed cell foam, with a springier layer and a raised wall behind the pelvis, and a soft top layer under the thighs.
- The fluid pad faces up in its well. Its hook and loop strips have to line up. A pad set at an angle can create a pressure point.
- The standard profile height is 4 in. A clinician sets the fluid volume, and it should not be changed without them.
How should it fit the seat and rider?
- Match the cushion to seated hip width. Leave 1 to 2 in (2.5 to 5 cm) between its front edge and the back of the knees.
- Place it against the back of the seat, with the identification tags toward the rear. Have the clinician check footrest height and chair stability.
- Stretched seat upholstery does not provide adequate support. Have the supplier check the seat before fitting the cushion.
- Read our return policy before a special order.
Care
- Check monthly. Sit for 7 to 10 minutes with the zipper open, transfer off, then press the depressions under the seat bones. Less than 1/2 in of fluid means stop and see your clinician.
- Do not leave a fluid cushion overnight below 5 C or above 42 C. Let it reach room temperature before use.
- The outer cover washes warm at 60 C. Wipe the fluid pad and the foam base. Never submerge them. The cushion carries 24 months and the cover six months. A fault goes through warranty service.
A different cushion in the same family
The JAY Fusion with a CryoFluid insert is a different device. See JAY Fusion with CryoFluid on its own page, and the rest of our wheelchair cushions.
The layers illustration shows alternative inserts in the Fusion family. Your quote specifies one JAY Flow fluid configuration.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a different cover?
Use a cover designed for this JAY cushion. A different cover can change how the cushion functions.
What if the fluid feels firmer in one area?
Gently knead it back to an even consistency. Ask your supplier for advice if the insert or cover shows wear.
What should I do if my skin becomes red?
Stop using the cushion and see your clinician. Regular skin checks matter, especially when first trying the cushion.
