Description
Two foam layers are what separate the SP cushion from the rest of the Axiom for Kids line: the top one is soft enough for a small rider to sink into, and the one under it carries the position.
Who this cushion is for
- A child whose skin is at risk from long spells in a wheelchair, and who also needs the pelvis held.
- A seat measuring 8 to 16 in wide. The page offers 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 in width and depth.
- A rider up to 165 lb (74.8 kg).
- Where skin is not the concern, the Axiom for Kids PXP cushion is the same shape with a single foam density.
What the two layers do
- The soft top layer lets the body sink further in, spreading load over a wider area at the trochanters.
- The firmer layer below keeps the cushion from bottoming out and holds the shape.
- Raised edges and the hexagonal surface come from the PXP, so the pelvis is still positioned.
- Ki shapes the contour by width: the 8 in cushion is not a scaled-down 16 in one.
Check the fit
- Measure the seat width and depth and match a cushion size to it, in 2 in steps.
- Allow for the 3.5 in (8.9 cm) cushion height when the seat-to-footrest distance is set.
- The cushion must not overhang the seat frame, or it catches on doors and transfers.
- An occupational therapist sets the position. We check the fit in the home: book a free home assessment.
Covers and care
- Choose the standard fabric contact surface or the incontinence-resistant polyurethane one. Both wipe clean.
- The cover lifts off for washing. Never immerse the foam base: it can take a day or more to dry.
- Punctures, tears and burns are excluded from the warranty, so keep sharp objects off the cushion.
- The cushion is not a restraint and does not replace a positioning belt or a back support.
Compare
- The whole cushion line is under wheelchair cushions, and the back supports are under backrests.
- For a chair built from the frame up, see the paediatric range.

Frequently asked questions
Will the soft layer wear out faster?
The top layer softens with daily use, as all foam does. Ki warrants the base for 24 months and the covers for 6.
Do I need the incontinence-resistant cover?
Choose it where spills or accidents are likely. It wipes clean and does not change how the foam positions the pelvis.
How often should the skin be checked?
Daily. Ki's manual asks for a daily skin check, because a cushion spreads pressure but cannot remove it.
