Description
Orthex makes this bed wedge in three sizes, and all three are on this page. The maker labels them by incline: low at 16 degrees, medium at 23 and high at 30, all 24 in wide and 8.5 in, 12 in and 15 in high.
You can see the rest of the range on our foam cushions and wheelchair cushions pages, or under the Orthex brand.
Which of the three should you choose?
- Low, medium and high are the maker's own tiers, and the angle and the size are all that differ: the width is 24 in on every one.
- As the incline steepens the wedge gets shorter and higher: 29 in long and 8.5 in high at 16 degrees, 28 in and 12 in at 23, 26 in and 15 in at 30.
- Each size is a separate stocked item, so tell us which height you want and we will quote that one.
How do you place it?
- The maker's instruction, lying or sitting: line the waist up with the base of the wedge, so the upper body is completely supported.
- Orthex names the supported regions as the back and the shoulders, and says the duration of use varies according to individual needs.
- The typical adaptation period is two to three weeks, and the maker says faster adaptation is common.
What is inside it?
- Gel infused viscoelastic memory foam over a high density polyurethane foam support structure, both from the maker's Certi-PUR certified range.
- A breathable knitted cover of coconut fibre and polyester that washes in cold water; replacement covers come from your retailer.
- Care: the foam wipes clean with a damp cloth only; the cover dries flat, with no bleach and no ironing.
- Warranty: five years from Orthex Canada inc., with claims made directly to Orthex.
How does it compare?
The Symbia 14 shoulder wedge is the gentlest incline, for the upper back only, and the Somnia side sleeper pillow is the pillow build for the same bed.
