Description

The Relax Gentle Form Back is a rigid wheelchair back from Power Plus Mobility with mild laterals, built to order when the standard 16 or 18 in shell does not fit.

What does it do and how does it work?

  • Shell and foam: a 3 lb (1.4 kg) aluminium shell carries high resilience foam and a removable lumbar support, with TEK4 waterproof material at the bottom edge.
  • Laterals: mild laterals are built into the shell, 3 in (76 mm) deep and 10 in (254 mm) high, and the shell is pre-drilled for a headrest.
  • Cubes: removable poly foam cubes behind the foam shape the back around spinal anomalies.
  • Adjustment: the pins give 2 in (51 mm) of width adjustment, and the angle moves 25 degrees anterior and 20 degrees posterior.
  • Part number: SHUS plus the width and height, for example SHUS1517 for a 15 x 17 in back.

Who is it for, and who should choose something else?

  • It gives moderate mid-line support and 10 in (25 cm) of lower thoracic support.
  • Choose a standard 16 x 18 or 18 x 18 in shell when it fits.
  • Choose the full laterals version when more lateral support is needed, or the Lunar Slim for a lighter, shallower shell.
  • An occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the back up in a seating assessment.

Will it fit?

  • Custom width: 15 in (381 mm) or less, or 19 in (483 mm) or more, ordered as SHUSBCW.
  • Custom height: 17 in (432 mm) or less, or 19 in (483 mm) or more, ordered as SHUSBCH.
  • Both: ordered as SHUSC.
  • Finished height: the shell size plus 2 in (51 mm).
  • Back posts: 7/8 in (22 mm) or 1 in (25 mm) tubing.

Using it day to day

  • Mounting: one hardware style fits every Power Plus back; the fitter sets width, angle and height.
  • Cover: a standard cover is fitted; a TEK4 infection control cover or a 4 in bottom protector can be ordered instead.
  • Overlays: foam, visco or gel overlays and extra cubes are quoted with the back.
  • Custom order: made to measurements, it is not returnable once production starts.

What does it work with, and what are its limits?

  • Chair fit: one universal hardware style on 7/8 or 1 in back posts.
  • Laterals: the mild laterals are fixed in the shell; the full laterals model is the deeper option.
  • Custom build: a custom size is non-returnable; read the return policy first.
  • Warranty: two years on parts, upholstery excluded; see the Warranty tab.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure for a custom back?

Take the width across the back at its widest point and the height from the seat to the shoulder blades.

Is a custom size more expensive?

Custom widths, heights and full-custom backs use separate order codes; we quote yours first.

Can I order a different cover?

Yes. A TEK4 infection control cover or a 4 in bottom protector can be fitted on a new back.

How does it mount to my chair?

One universal hardware style fits 7/8 in or 1 in back posts, with the angle and width set at fitting.
