Description
The Ride Designs Custom 2 is a custom molded wheelchair cushion. Ride Designs captures the sitter's shape with its RideWorks scanning system, then molds the cushion to that shape instead of cutting it from a stock size. An occupational therapist or physiotherapist takes the scan in a seating assessment.
Ride Designs describes the Custom 2 as skin and postural care, and says the best result comes when it is paired with a Ride back support. The base is softer than the original Ride Custom cushion.
Who is it for?
Ride Designs names the traditional custom seating user, active users and growing children. The cushion can be grown in width and length as the sitter changes, and the scanned shape file stays with Ride Designs for a later rebuild.
Which size fits the chair?
Width and depth are built to the scan, in virtually any size, so there is no size list to choose from. An average 16 x 16 in cushion weighs about 1.8 lb (0.8 kg).
Capacity follows the width: 250 lb (113 kg) for cushions 20 in (51 cm) wide or narrower, and 300 lb (136 kg) for 21 in (53 cm) and wider.
How is it built?
The cushion is molded to the scanned shape. A pair of Ride CAM wedges is included and changes the contour as weight or posture changes. Reticulated foam well inserts give softer support at bony prominences, and an optional ventilation channel is placed to suit the shape.
Covers, care and returns
The outer cover is polyester spacer fabric, with breathable spandex or a two-layer spacer cover as an option. A Soft Fit upgrade adds spacer mesh layers, and incontinence covers can be ordered.
The cushion is molded to the order, so it is not returnable once it is in production. Read the return policy first.
