Description
The Ride Designs Forward is a contoured foam wheelchair cushion. A visco-elastic top layer sits over a polyurethane foam base, and Ride Designs says that top layer conforms to the body's shape to help lower peak pressures. An occupational therapist or physiotherapist checks the fit in a seating assessment.
Ride Designs describes the users as people with mild to moderate postural challenges and some sensation, and says the cushion helps keep the hips level and positioned toward the back of the chair. Best results are said to come with a Ride back support.
Which size fits the chair?
The pediatric contour comes in 10 and 12 in widths. The adult contour comes in 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20 in. Depths are 10, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 20 in. Additional widths and depths are available through factory modification.
The capacity is 350 lb (160 kg) and the cushion weighs 1.0 to 5.3 lb (0.5 to 2.4 kg), depending on size.
How is it built?
The base is contoured, and the pediatric contour is described as specially optimized for the pediatric pelvis. CAM wedges may be added to adjust the cushion. Ride Designs does not publish an item number for a size, so we confirm the width and depth on the order instead of selling a code.
Covers, care and returns
The outer cover is polyester spacer fabric that does not compress under load, so air moves between the sitter and the cushion. The inner incontinence-resistant cover has no seams or zippers in the path of liquid drainage, and Ride Designs says large spills roll off the back of the cushion.
An integrated spandex layer over the spacer fabric can be specified.
The cushion can be disassembled and washed or sanitized. A used cushion, or one that has touched the skin, is not returnable. Read the return policy.
Delivery and service
