Description
The Spex Classic SuperHigh Contour is a wheelchair seat cushion with deep pelvic immersion. The rear of the cushion sits lower than a standard cushion and the surface steps down toward the pelvis.
Spex shapes that step-down for windswept postures or a difference in hip and femur alignment, and gives the front half medial and lateral contouring so the thighs and knees are controlled without external pads.
An occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets the contouring in a seating assessment. It is the deepest of the Spex contour cushions, above High Contour and Standard Contour.
Who is it for?
Spex designs it for users with moderate to severe positioning needs: deeper pelvic and hip immersion, and thigh control the chair cannot give with external laterals.
Which size fits the chair?
Width bands are 8-10 in at 2 in high, 11-13 in at 2.5 in, 14-15 in at 2.5 in, 16-17 in at 2.75 in and 18-20 in at 3 in.
Depths run from 8-9 in to 21-24 in, and the deeper cushions carry more thigh contouring: 2 rows of pads at 8-9 in deep, up to 6 rows at 21-24 in.
How is it built?
The trough is 80 mm deep up to 13 in wide and 100 mm from 14-15 in wide up. A gel foam ischial well spreads pressure under the pelvis, and the base is shaped to take up tight hamstrings or limited hip flexion.
What does it not fit?
Spex states the cushion is not compatible with thigh supports or medial thigh supports, because the contouring is built into the surface. The lower rear leaves more room for hip positioning belts.
Covers, care and returns
The cover is dual layer with air-mesh sides, and an inner incontinence cover comes with the cushion. Spex prints no washing temperature. A used cushion, or one that has touched the skin, is not returnable. Read the return policy.
