Description
The Spex SuperShape is a wheelchair back support contoured to the user with a triple layered cube cell system. Cells are padded on the spot, as often as needed, so the surface follows a changing posture without a new shell.
Who is it for?
Spex describes the SuperShape for complex postural needs: spinal or trunk asymmetries, protruding skeletal prominences, and users who risk skin breakdown or need deeper immersion. Other backs are in the wheelchair backrest range.
Which size fits the chair?
Widths run from 10 to 20 in in 1 in steps, and heights from 12 to 23 in. The taller heights start at 16 in wide. Spex prints a code per combination; 16 x 18 in is 1256-1618-0SS.
Capacity is 200 lb (90 kg) in widths 10 to 15 in and 300 lb (136 kg) in 16 to 20 in. Spex raises those figures to 300 lb and 400 lb with the Heavy-Duty brackets.
How is it built?
The contouring substrate is a triple layer of cube cells in padded pockets. A pressure reducing foam layer sits under an expansion fabric surface, and wedges are zipped inside. The shell is 10 cm (3.9 in) thick before contouring.
How does it mount on the wheelchair?
Spex offers Single, Dual, Heavy-Duty Quad, Quad Fixed and Direct Mount hardware, with Cane Mount and DeepContour bracket upgrades. Angle, depth and height adjust on the chair. Spex says the back fits virtually any frame and names the Quickie 2, Q500M, TA iQ and TDX SP.
Covers and care
The cover is breathable and washable, and Spex sells nine colours. The incontinence cover is separate. The maker prints no washing temperature, so we state none. A used back support is not returnable; read the return policy.

Frequently asked questions
How is the contouring changed?

What mounting hardware does it need?
Spex sells Single, Dual, Heavy-Duty Quad, Quad Fixed and Direct Mount hardware. Capacity above 300 lb needs the Heavy-Duty brackets.
