Savaria says the outer layer of The Topper zips off for machine washing, then air drying. R-MEM is that layer alone. It does not include the inner air-delivery cover or the control unit.
Match the layer to the topper you have
One item number does not fit every Topper.
- R-MEM36 is 80 x 36 in. R-MEM8436 is 84 x 36 in.
- R-MEM42 is 80 x 42 in. R-MEM8442 is 84 x 42 in.
- R-MEM48 is 80 x 48 in. R-MEM8448 is 84 x 48 in.
- The system under a 36 inch width is rated 500 lbs (227 kg), a 42 inch width 750 lbs (340 kg), and a 48 inch width 1,000 lbs (454 kg). That rating belongs to the Topper, not to this cloth by itself.
What it does not replace
If the inner air layer is torn, you need the cover assembly, not this outer layer. The surface under The Topper is a separate medical mattress.
Measure the topper you already own. A free home assessment can check length and width. The wrong size will not zip onto the cover.
Health Canada recommends rail gaps under 120 mm (4 3/4 in) in zones 1 to 3 and under 60 mm (2 3/8 in) in zone 4. Replacing only the outer layer should not change the height, but the bed still has to be checked. See bed rails.
Washing, funding and returns
Savaria says this outer layer is wiped in place with a hospital-grade cleaner, or unzipped, machine washed and air dried. Do not put the inner air layer in the washer. That layer is not this part.

Does R-MEM36 include the air layer?
No. R-MEM is the zip-off outer layer. The cover assembly, CLT-MEM, is the part that includes the inner air layer.
Can this layer go in the washing machine?
Yes. Savaria says the outer layer is machine laundered and then air dried. Do not tumble it.
Which code replaces an 84 by 42 inch outer layer?
R-MEM8442. R-MEM42 is 80 by 42. The 84 inch length is the code with 84 in the item number.
Is the 500 lb figure the cloth's strength?
No. 500, 750 and 1,000 lbs are the Topper system ratings by width. This page sells only the outer layer.
