Description
The ZIPPIE GS is a paediatric wheelchair from Sunrise Medical, sold as a folding frame or a rigid frame.
Who should use a ZIPPIE GS, and who should pick another chair?
It suits a child who will grow in one chair: up to 2 inches of width and 4 inches of depth.
A folding frame stores in a vehicle or a tight room. A rigid frame has fewer moving parts.
Pick the ZIPPIE Zone for a lighter rigid chair. Pick the ZIPPIE IRIS if the child needs tilt.
How do I check the fit?
Sunrise does not publish a measuring method, and it does not tell you to add or subtract an inch.
Measure seated hip width, the hip to the back of the knee, and the seat-to-floor height.
Seat width is 10 to 18 inches. Seat depth is 10 to 20 inches. Front seat-to-floor is 14 to 20 inches, rear 12.5 to 20.
A free home assessment can take those measurements before you order.
How does it fold or come apart, and what does it weigh?
Only the folding frame folds. The rigid frame stays open.
The May 2025 reference guide lists folding at 25 lbs (11.3 kg) without footrests, and rigid at 29 lbs (13.2 kg) without a footrest.
The product page prints a rigid weight of 25 lbs and does not say which parts that includes. Capacity is 165 lbs (75 kg).
The 50 lb figure is an average shipping weight, not the weight of the chair.
Which options are chosen on the order form?
You choose folding or rigid, transit included or optional, casters from 3 to 8 inches, and rear wheels of 12, 16, 20, 22 or 24 inches.
How does the GS compare with two other chairs?
The ZIPPIE X'CAPE folds on a locking crossbrace and is listed at 19 lbs (8.6 kg) without footrests.
The Zone stays rigid and is listed at 14 lbs (6.4 kg). See paediatric wheelchairs and folding wheelchairs.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order a folding GS and a rigid GS?
Yes. The May 2025 Canadian order form lists folding and rigid as separate growing frame choices.
Can the large wheels sit at the front?
Yes. The maker calls that reverse placement, for a shorter reach or so the child can see the wheels.
Does every GS come with transit hardware?
No. The order form has a transit-included GS and a transit-optional GS. Transit is selected with the frame.
