Description
Ki Mobility Axiom AS is a fluid wheelchair cushion, the adjustable skin protection model in the Axiom line. Its bladders hold Hydrolite, a light fluid the maker says is less sensitive to temperature than older designs.
Who it suits
- Ki Mobility classes the Axiom AS as an adjustable skin protection cushion, a step up from the foam models in the same line.
- The maker says the femurs, trochanters and ischia load independently, and that its system sets the fluid volume from the rider's bodyweight and shape.
- A seating assessment by an occupational therapist or physiotherapist decides which cushion suits.
Which size fits your wheelchair?
- The maker's order form lists 67 width and depth pairs, from 14 x 14 in to 22 x 22 in, each with its own XAS item number (XAS plus the width and depth, so XAS1818 is 18 x 18 in) in the size selector.
- They are not a square grid: 14 in wide is made 14 to 20 in deep, and the 21 in and 22 in widths start at 18 in and 16 in deep.
How is it built?
- A pleated four way stretch Lycra cover sits over spacer fabric and reticulated foam, which the maker fits for air flow.
- Fluid reservoir channels in the foam base let a clinician adjust the fluid volume. The ischial bladders carry a more mobile fluid, the trochanteric bladders a stiffer one.
- Vents let the cushion respond to changes in ambient pressure. It sits 4.5 in (11.4 cm) high, 3.8 in (9.5 cm) at the leg troughs, and holds up to 350 lb (158.8 kg).
Covers and care
- Machine wash the cover in hot water and tumble dry with no heat. Never dry clean, bleach or steam it.
- Never immerse the fluid pads: sanitize them with a 70% alcohol spray. Spare covers sit in our wheelchair cushion range.
