Description
The Axiom S is the model Ki Mobility calls its entry level skin protection cushion. Its mild contoured well supports the trochanters and envelops the ischial tuberosities and coccyx. Ki says the deeper hexagonal shapes in the pelvic well let the body sit further into the foam. Wheelchair cushions in this family share the same base and cover.
Who it is for
Ki describes the Axiom S as "a great entry level skin protection cushion", and says its pelvic well was designed with special emphasis on the area that distributes pressure around the tissues supporting the bony prominences. A seating assessment by an occupational therapist or physiotherapist picks the cushion and the size.
Which size fits the wheelchair?
Measure the wheelchair seat, not the person. The Axiom S runs 14 in to 22 in wide and deep, with 50 combinations on the maker's order form. The item number is XS plus the two measurements, so a 16 x 18 in cushion is XS1618. Send both figures on the seating quote form.
How it is built
The base is one moulded high-IFD polyurethane foam, 3 in (7.6 cm) high overall and 2.25 in (5.7 cm) at the leg troughs. It weighs 2.2 lbs (0.99 kg) and carries up to 350 lbs (158.8 kg). Ki lists a back cut front edge, rounded rear corners and trochanter loading areas as part of the shape.
Covers and care
The standard cover is a pleated 4-way stretch Lycra knit with a water-resistant top layer and a skid-resistant bottom panel. The incontinence resistant cover has a wipeable polyurethane contact surface. Wash the cover warm, tumble dry with no heat, and never soak the foam base. A spare cover is ordered through our service department.

Frequently asked questions
How do I measure for the Axiom S?
Measure the wheelchair seat, not the person: the cushion width and depth match the seat. Send us both figures and we confirm the item number.
How is the Axiom S different from the Axiom G?
Same foam base and cover, different well. Ki calls the Axiom S its entry level skin protection cushion and the Axiom G its general use cushion.
Can I order a spare cover with the cushion?
Yes. The same size is ordered with a spare cover by adding C2 to the item number, or IC2 on the incontinence resistant build.
What does the maker's warranty cover?
Ki covers the cushion base for 24 months and the removable cover for 6 months from the date of purchase. Punctures, tears and burns are excluded.
