Description
The drive sits in the rear wheels, not in a unit on the front or under the seat. You steer with the handrims or the toggle.
Who is the Empulse M90 for?
- A rider who wants power for distance and hills, then free-rolls when they do not.
- Not for 22 or 26 inch wheels, a carbon frame, rear suspension or one-arm drive.
- If a caregiver pushes, look at the Empulse R20.
Will these wheels fit?
- Rear wheels must be 24 in (540 mm). No other size is offered.
- The install sets camber to zero. Handrims must be tab-mount, standard or wide, not narrow.
- Leave 1.2 in (30 mm) for the controller. Casters of 5 in or larger are suggested.
- The user limit is 265 lb (120 kg). Tell us the chair model and we confirm fit before you order.
Weight, range and speed
Each wheel is 11.7 lb (5.3 kg) without the battery. Both wheels with batteries are 26.2 lb (11.9 kg).
Range is up to 9.3 mi (15 km). Top speed is 3.7 mph (6 km/h). Surface, weight and terrain change both.
Rated slope is 3 degrees, with short climbs tested at 6 degrees.
Each battery is 4.0 Ah, 1.3 lb (0.6 kg), 86.4 Wh at 21.6 V. Sunrise calls it flight-friendly. The airline still decides.
How does it compare?
The Empulse R90 is a rear add-on that stays on the chair. The Empulse F35 and the Empulse StreetJet are front pulls.
The Klaxon Twist can sit at the front or the rear. See other wheelchairs, or book a free home assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my own tires and handrims?
Yes, on a 24 inch wheel, if the handrims are tab-mount in a standard or wide spot. A narrow handrim position does not fit.
Can I push with the power off?
Yes. A switch on each wheel sets free roll, so the chair pushes like a manual chair when you do not want power.
What if my chair is not a Quickie?
The maker's guide names the Sunrise chairs it has checked, and says other brands are still to come. Tell us the model and we confirm fit before you order.
Do the wheels change how wide the chair is?
The motor and battery sit in the hub, so there is no side unit to add width. Armrests near the motor can still need the wheel shifted out.
