Description
The Empulse R20 is power for the person pushing, not a handbike the rider steers.
Who it helps, and who should pick another Empulse
- It suits a caregiver who pushes a folding or tilt manual chair on pavements and ramps.
- The rider does not operate it. If the rider will steer, pick the Empulse F35 or the Empulse StreetJet.
- Powered wheels are the Empulse M90. A rider-controlled push from behind is the Empulse R90.
Will it fit the chair?
Seat width is 13 to 23 in and seat-to-floor height is 15.5 to 20.5 in. The manual lists folding and tilt frames.
Rear wheels it names are 12, 16, 22, 24, 25, and 26 in. The owner's manual does not print tube diameters.
- Clamp A is for 22 to 28 mm tubes and clamp B is for 29 to 32 mm, with the arm at 20 to 45 degrees.
- Tell us the chair model and we confirm the clamp before you order. This device has no brake, so the caregiver uses the chair brakes.
Use limits
- The attendant pushes. The rider must not drive the R20 like a power chair.
- Free-run lets the rider self-propel the handrims without taking the unit off. That is not a rider throttle.
- Rider limit 375 lb (170 kg). Chair, rider, and cargo together must stay under 419 lb (190 kg).
- Up to 9 miles (14.5 km) on a charge, depending on the rider's weight, the terrain and how much the rider helps.
- Take it off before a car trip. It is not tested attached in a moving vehicle.
- The manual gives 3 years on the device, 1 year on the controller, and 6 months on the battery and charger.
Chairs are under wheelchairs. We can look at the push handles at home: book a free home assessment.
