Description
The R90 pushes from one wheel under the chair.
Who is the Empulse R90 for?
- A rider who wants help on distance and ramps without giving up the handrims.
- Not for a carbon frame, rear suspension, one-arm drive, or a rigid chair with a V-shaped axle.
- If a caregiver pushes, the Empulse R20 is built for that job.
Will it fit your chair?
- Rigid chairs need a straight camber tube, 22-45 mm, and camber of 0 to 3 degrees.
- Rear wheels are 24, 25 or 26 in, matched to the height from the ground to the camber tube.
- Folding chairs need 300-530 mm between the axle plates. The receiver stays on, and the chair can still fold.
- User limit 275 lb (125 kg). The control box needs 30 mm of frame. Tell us the chair model and we confirm fit before you order.
Speed, range and batteries
The motor is 250 W and 22 Nm. Top speed is 5.5 mph (8.9 km/h). Above 6 km/h needs the order-form sign-off, and it is not for every public path.
Range is 9.8 mi (15.7 km) on 2.5 Ah and 19.5 mi (31.4 km) on 5 Ah, on level ground with no extra resistance. Rated slope is 6 degrees.
The unit is 13.0 lb (5.9 kg) without a battery, 14.5 lb (6.6 kg) with 2.5 Ah, and 15.6 lb (7.1 kg) with 5 Ah.
Charge time is about 1 hour or 2 hours. Anti-tips are recommended.
How does it compare?
The Empulse M90 puts the drive in the wheels. The Empulse F35 and the Empulse StreetJet are front pulls.
The Klaxon Twist can mount at the front or the rear. See other wheelchairs, or book a free home assessment.

Frequently asked questions
Does the drive wheel drag when I push?
No. A button lifts the drive wheel so it is clear of the ground, which the maker calls zero rolling resistance.
Can I take the unit off and still fold?
Yes. The receiver stays on the chair and the push unit comes off. A folding chair can still fold with that receiver in place.
Can I use the full 5.5 mph everywhere?
Not by default. Above 6 km/h the maker wants the order-form sign-off, and some public paths do not allow that speed.
Is the bracket the same for every chair?
No. Rigid chairs use a camber-tube clamp, and folding chairs use a crossbar. We match the bracket before you order.
