Description
The Invacare Matrx E2 is a contoured wheelchair back from Motion Concepts, with an aluminium shell and a Ripple Foam face. The E2S standard contour, 3 in deep, is sold here in the 18 in and 20 in heights.
What does it do and how does it work?
- Shell and foam: an aluminium shell carries Ripple Foam with airflow channels; Motion Concepts credits it with temperature and moisture control, immersion and pressure redistribution.
- Contour: 3 in (76 mm); the E2 Deep is 6 in (152 mm).
- Cover: Meshtex, the standard outer cover.
- Hardware: EasySet is standard, removable or fixed; it adjusts in height, width and rotation, with 40 degrees of angle and 2 in (51 mm) of depth.
- Headrest: an interface plate is included on backs 14 in and taller.
Who is it for, and who should choose something else?
- It suits a wheelchair user who needs a contoured back with a 300 lb (136 kg) capacity.
- Choose the same E2 back in 6 to 16 in heights for a shorter back.
- Choose the E2 Deep for a 6 in contour or the MAC backrest for dual-layer foam.
- An occupational therapist or physiotherapist sets it up.
Will it fit?
- Heights: 18 in (46 cm) or 20 in (51 cm).
- Widths: 14, 16, 18 or 20 in (36 to 51 cm); each width has its own frame band.
- Back canes: 1 in (25 mm), with 3/4 and 7/8 in inserts; EasySet fits 2 in (51 mm) wider or 1 in (25 mm) narrower.
- Special widths: 15, 17 and 19 in are made to order.
Using it day to day
- Installation: a qualified technician fits the back and sets the angle, depth and rotation.
- Cover care: remove it first; wash at up to 60 C (140 F) on a delicate cycle, no bleach or dry clean, drip dry or tumble low.
- Shell and hardware: wipe with soap and water.
- Inspection: check fasteners weekly and the hardware, foam and cover monthly.
What does it work with, and what are its limits?
- Weight: up to 300 lb (136 kg).
- Vehicle use: tested to ISO 16840-4:2009 and ANSI/RESNA WC-4:2017 Section 20 with the Elan headrest; a headrest is required on backs 14 in and taller, and the wheelchair must meet RESNA WC19 or ISO 7176-19.
- Warranty: two years; the cover, labour and shipping are excluded.
- Returns: a special-order width is not returnable; read the return policy first.
How does it compare?
- The 6 to 16 in E2 back is the same contour in shorter heights, with MiniSet hardware.
- The E2 Deep doubles the contour to 6 in.
