Spex Comfi wheelchair back support

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

  • Size

The Spex Comfi Back Support is a modular wheelchair back with a foam cube system. The maker describes it as a simple, affordable answer to basic contouring needs, designed to counter skin breakdown and increase air flow, and as suitable for a person who needs a solid back support for mild to moderate postural needs. The foam is thermosensitive, so it conforms to the back, and individual cubes can be torn away where a bony prominence, a tender spot or a lesion needs relief. It comes in 33 sizes from 10 to 20 in wide.

Description

The Spex Comfi wheelchair back is a modular back support with a foam cube system. Spex describes it as a simple, affordable answer to basic contouring needs, designed to counter skin breakdown and increase air flow, and says it suits a person who needs a solid back support for mild to moderate postural needs.

How the foam works

The foam is thermosensitive, so it conforms to the shape of the back as it warms. Cubes can be torn away by hand to relieve a bony prominence, a tender spot or a lesion, and the cut grid gives the surface a mild suspension effect. Air-mesh side panels move air through the back.

Sizes and weight limits

Thirty three sizes run from 10 in wide x 12 in high to 20 in wide x 23 in high, one item code each. The 10 to 15 in backs carry 200 lbs (90 kg) and the 16 to 20 in backs 300 lbs (136 kg), or 300 lbs and 400 lbs with Heavy-Duty brackets.

Cover and mounting

The shell is aluminium. Over the foam sit an expansion fabric inner cover and a washable breathable spacer fabric outer cover, in two layers. The mounting hardware is chosen separately: Quad Mount, Dual Mount or Single Mount. The same shell and hardware take a full Spex contouring system later.

Ordering and funding

Every size is quoted, so tell us the width, the height and the mount you want and we confirm the item code and the price. Funding may help: see who may help pay.

Backrests are listed under wheelchair backrests, and Spex is part of Sunrise Medical. Claims go through our service department and made to order items are non-returnable, so see the return policy and send your measurements on the seating quote form.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes does the Comfi back come in?

Thirty three sizes, from 10 in wide x 12 in high to 20 in wide x 23 in high, with a made to measure width by quote.

Can the foam cubes be removed?

What does the warranty cover?
