Spex Manta Classic wheelchair back support

$ 0.00 $ 0.00

The Spex Manta Classic Back Support takes the wraparound shape of the Manta and builds it on the contouring cube system of the Spex Classic, so the back hugs the trunk and can still be reshaped on the spot. The lateral trunk supports are part of the back rather than an add-on, and the cover comes in nine accent colours. It is made to the width and height your chair needs.

  • Product type: Modular wheelchair back support with built-in lateral trunk supports
  • Back width: 10 in to 22 in, matched to the chair from the maker's fitting table
  • Back height: 12 in to 23 in
  • Weight capacity: 200 lbs (90 kg) in the 10 to 15 in widths, 300 lbs (136 kg) in the 16 to 20 in widths

  • Base: Aluminium shell with the Spex contouring cube system, a cube anchor system and wing cube pockets
  • Cover: Soft breathable cover with a zip around the entire rear edge, over a pressure-relieving inner overlay
  • Hardware: Single, Dual, Quad, Heavy Duty Quad, Direct or Drop Mount, sold separately

Product weight
2.2 kg (4.9 lbs) at the 16 x 16 in size, the back support alone without hardware
Warranty
24 months from the date of purchase on the foam, covers, foam positioning unit and hardware; general wear, punctures, tears, burns and abuse excluded

What is included?

The aluminium shell, the foam system and the outer cover, with the contouring cubes for the lateral wings in the box. The mounting hardware is chosen separately, so tell us the width, the height and the mount you want and we confirm the item code and the price. The code is built as 1254 plus the two measurements plus -2SS, so a 16 in wide by 18 in high back is 1254-1618-2SS. Non-standard and custom sizes are made on request.

Description

The Spex Manta Classic wheelchair back takes the wraparound shape of the Manta and builds it on the contouring cube system of the Spex Classic. It hugs the trunk and can still be reshaped on the spot as posture changes.

How the contouring works

Cubes are added or removed while the person stays seated: the cover unzips from the top, and the cube anchor system keeps them from shifting during transfers. Spex includes contouring cubes for the lateral wings in the box, so the wings can be built up as needed.

Laterals, width and weight limits

The lateral trunk supports are built into the back, with extended lateral hardware that keeps the Manta shape even under built-up contouring, and covers in soft neoprene for comfort during self-propulsion. Spex offers a swing-away lateral option for easier transfers.

The back is made to the chair: widths run from 10 in to 22 in and heights from 12 in to 23 in, and the maker's fitting table matches the back width to the chair's internal width. The 10 to 15 in widths carry 200 lbs (90 kg) and the 16 to 20 in widths 300 lbs (136 kg).

Cover and mounting

A pressure-relieving inner overlay sits under the outer cover, which is soft and breathable and zips around the entire rear edge, so it comes off for washing and the foam goes back in easily.

Six mounts are offered and chosen separately: Single, Dual, Quad, Heavy Duty Quad, Direct and Drop Mount versions. The back suits most manual and powered chairs with vertical canes of 0.75 in to 1 in tube.

Ordering and funding

Every back is quoted: tell us the width, the height and the mount you want and we confirm the item code and the price. Funding may help: see who may help pay.

Backrests sit under wheelchair backrests, and Spex is part of Sunrise Medical. Made to order items are non-returnable, so see the return policy and send measurements on the seating quote form.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Manta Classic sized?

By the chair, not a stock size list: the back is built from 10 in to 22 in wide and 12 in to 23 in high, so send us the chair's internal width and the height you want.

Do the lateral supports come with the back?

Yes. The lateral supports are built into the back, the wing cubes are in the box, and a swing-away option eases transfers.

What does the warranty cover?

Twenty four months from purchase on the foam, the covers, the positioning unit and the hardware; punctures, tears and burns are excluded.
